Tides of emotions
body of work by Phia
This series of self-portraits marks my transition into a more authentic artistic voice—one that finally allows my emotions to guide the brush. Each piece explores a different facet of my inner spectrum, from the radiant warmth of joy to the chilling weight of depression and anxiety. Where my previous work adhered to a style that felt disconnected from my personal truth, these paintings are raw and unfiltered, using color, texture, and composition to map the contradictions of self. The bright, twinkling eyes of one portrait sit in stark contrast to the icy numbness of another, mirroring the duality of human experience. Through this collection, I’ve reclaimed my identity on canvas, turning self-portraiture into both a mirror and a release—an invitation to ask, ‘What does it look like to feel?
